COLLEZIONE GORI

Hypnerotomachia – Psychomachia

1984 – bronze, felt, mixed media on copper, bronze and lead

Begun in 1983, upon completion of Labyrinth in the park, these three frames represent a turning point in the artist’s career. They are the first examples of a long series of apocalyptic themes that Morris continued to explore during the 1980s. In January 1993, the artist decided to fill the sculpture-frames which, until then, had been empty. Using panels of different metals decorated with patinas and wax, he created an impressive illusion of depth on the black reflective surfaces. The three sculptures continue to reside in the same room of the fattoria where they were originally created.
