Giuseppe Spagnulo (Grottaglie, 1936 – Milano, 2016)

At the conclusion of his work in 1988, Giuseppe Spagnulo wrote a text in the form of a letter to the collector, recounting certain aspects of his artistic process at Celle, “Dear Giuliano the Magnificent,I saw the park, I saw itagain, I spent days looking for my place … and I kept coming back to the edge of the well.”

From his choice of site which was “already a sculpture”, he moved on to create his: “huge figure on its edge.DAPHNE: I cut metal plates heated and bent themI dug up olive trees I cast bronze parts a trip together with Giulianothe Magnificent from Celle to Milanto Santa Maria di Merate, and from there to the foundry to the workshop before landing back at Celle in front of the wellDAPHNE for the terrifying, devastating feeling that overhangs, weighs down sacred representation or via crucis a dear friend of mine used to say hell he also used to say from which someone had returned.” Giuseppe Spagnulo in Gori Collection: Site Specific Art at the Fattoria di Celle, ed.
