COLLEZIONE GORI

Alice Aycock

Alice Aycock (Harrisburg, 1946 – )

Alice Aycock, known as an important figure in environmental art, was among the first artists invited by Giuliano Gori to create an outdoor installation at Celle. They had met in Kassel in 1977, when Aycock showed at Documenta 6. Gori’s invitation to work in a historic Tuscan garden inspired a piece that, according to art critic Robert Hobbs, was “particularly appropriate to Celle since it is close to the birthplaces of Galileo and Leonardo and only a short distance from Florence, where early Renaissance art… was created.”

“The Nets of Solomone” consists of five individual structures, each being a diagrammatic sketch of an imaginary object (a spaceship, perhaps) having come from one of five different schematic universes.” -Alice Aycock in Gori Collection Site Specific Art at the Fattoria di Celle, ed. Gli Ori, Pistoia, 2009, p. 57.
