COLLEZIONE GORI

VINCItore. All the Music of the Woods. Here in front. Passage of Secrets.

1982 – charcoal and acrylic paint on wall, wood, oil paint

The work occupies a large room on the top floor of the villa as well as a narrow adjoining corridor. Beginning in the corridor, the walls are covered, floor to ceiling, with large charcoal drawings referencing the spirits of the woods. From here, one enters the room where new designs (this time in a fluorescent red) are traced across most of the wall space. These represent the music of the woods, made visual through abstract symbols which recall the flight of birds. The abstract designs interact with two enigmatic forms: a painting where figures and signs are crossed by a snake (referring to an experience Paladino had in the park) and a totemic sculpture. The latter is created by two wooden planks leaning together to form the shape of an “A”, has been sculpted and painted to portray man’s anxieties. The artist then placed the sculpture in front of the southern-facing window, through which one can see Vinci across the plain.
