The Environmental Art project, initiated in 1982, comprises a vast number of artworks distributed mainly in the park surrounding the Villa and the heart of the project. In environmental art, space is an integral and immovable part of the artist’s project as it contributes to the creative process: natural datum and work are inseparable. This is why, at the basis of the project, there is the utmost respect for nature, the conformation of which may not be changed for the creation of the work. True to these principles, the Collection now houses more than 80 environmental works, scattered in both the outdoor and indoor spaces of the estate.

The Gori Collection has a history divided into two periods: 1950-1970 and 1970 to the present. Founded by Giuliano and Pina Gori in Prato, it focuses on contemporary art and favours innovative artists. Rapid growth required a suitable space, which became a place frequented by various artistic participants.
In 1970, the historical part moved to Santomato di Pistoia, starting an Environmental Art programme. The space becomes an integral part of the work, reactivating the relationship between artist and patron. In 1982, eighteen works were inaugurated in Celle, marking the opening to the public. The Gori Collection becomes an interdisciplinary workshop with artists from all over the world participating on an ongoing basis.
